The archives serves as the institutional memory of Wittenberg University. The archives identifies, acquires, and maintains records of enduring value that chronicles Wittenberg's history.
Our archives contain some cool artifacts, like Ezra Keller's walking cane and traveling trunk. We also have old yearbooks, old football film reels, and other college records and papers that students can use for research. Suzanne Smailes is the best contact person for the archive's use. You can make an appointment with her to view items or learn more about what we have.
A special collection is a group of items, such as rare books, artwork or documents, that are either irreplaceable or unusually rare and valuable. A few examples found in Wittenberg's Special Collections are an extensive East Asian art collection, the McGregor Civil War letters, and books and pamphlets published in the Reformation.
Thomas Library has over 3000 items in its rare book collection. These items are included in the library's catalog (EZRA). To use rare materials, fill out an online request or pick up a print Retrieval Request form at the Circulation or Reference Desk. Turn in paper forms to a Reference Librarian or at the Circulation Desk. Materials will be retrieved as soon as possible. Suzanne Smailes will contact you when the materials are available for your use. Rare materials must be used in the library. When you are finished with them please return them to the Circulation Desk.
