My name is Oliver Julian, and at the time of writing this, I'm a freshman at Wittenberg University, class of 2028! The portion of the column that I painted is the very bottom, the one with the teal background and bright fruit. I was inspired by a lot of the murals that I saw on our trips across Ohio for the first half of the week, and while I didn't have the time to make the fruit look as realistic as possible, I’m still very happy with how it turned out. My main inspiration is my phone lock screen picture, featuring the same fruit in a very similar style, down to the color of the background. I drew these fruits during my senior year of high school in a digital art class and I have loved them ever since. I adore the bright and fun exciting colors and the summer vibe that they give off. When learning about this opportunity to paint a mural in the library, I knew I wanted to incorporate some of that bright fun into the space.
As for my hidden easter egg, I also love balloon dogs, they're just as bright and fun as fruit to me. I also adore the design of neon signs, so I knew I had to incorporate both those interests of mine into one little artwork!
